Troubleshooting
Quick answers to the problems that come up most often with tiled printing.
Alignment and seams
Sheets don’t line up. Enable overlap and align sheets on the duplicated strip rather than paper edges. Trim using crop marks afterwards.
A thin white line runs down a seam. The tiles were butt-joined with a gap between cuts. Increase overlap, or cut slightly inside the trim mark so sheets meet under the overlapped content.
Image quality
Splitter Studio warns that source resolution is below target DPI. Your image doesn’t contain enough pixels for the requested physical size at that DPI - see DPI. Options: accept a lower effective DPI (often fine for posters viewed at distance), reduce poster dimensions, or supply a higher-resolution source. Splitter Studio won’t silently upscale and hide this.
Text looks soft but photos look fine. Line art and text need higher effective DPI than photographic content to appear crisp. Raise the DPI target for text-heavy work.
Printing problems
Output is scaled wrong or clipped. Make sure the paper size matches in three places: the tiling layout, the Windows printer settings, and the driver’s loaded paper. Mismatches force the driver to scale.
A large job stopped mid-poster. Use retry to reprint only the failed sheet, or resume to continue from where the queue stopped. Completed sheets don’t need reprinting.
Colors look different across sheets. Mixed ink levels or driver color management changes mid-run can shift color; print large jobs in one session where possible.
