Getting started

This guide takes you from installation to a finished, wall-ready poster.

1. Install

Download Splitter Studio for Windows from the download page and run the installer. It is self-contained: no Python, no Docker, no extra runtimes. Launch Splitter Studio from the Start menu when it finishes.

2. Open an image

Load the artwork you want to print. Splitter Studio reads the file’s pixel dimensions and reports them - this matters later when checking resolution (see DPI).

3. Choose paper and final size

Pick the sheets your printer actually uses - A3 or A4 are typical starting points - then enter the final poster size you want, for example 36 × 48 inches. This is the physical size of the assembled result.

4. Review the calculated layout

Splitter Studio computes rows, columns, total sheets, printable area and effective DPI. If your source image can’t reach your target DPI, you’ll see the warning here rather than after printing.

5. Preview

Inspect the tile grid: boundaries, printable area, overlap strips and crop marks. Zoom into any tile to check exactly what will be cut where.

6. Generate and print

Generate the full-resolution tiles from your original image, then print through the Windows printing workflow - sequentially, in label order.

7. Assemble

Lay the sheets out by label (A1…), align using the overlap strips, trim with the crop marks, and mount. The first poster is always the hardest - after that, it’s routine.
